Energy Solutions

Pumps & Motors

Whether you operate and maintain a hotel, condominium, office building, retail store, restaurant, or hospital, you can save energy by examining your pumps and motors.

If your facility’s pumps and motors will be in need of replacement in the near future, now is the time to start planning for a newer, better and more energy efficient system.

Hawaii Energy rebates lower the upfront purchase costs, which in many cases, can be recovered in two years through operational cost savings. Variable frequency drives that make air conditioner fans and pumps more efficient also qualify for rebates.

Hawaii Energy rebates are available for:

Premium Efficiency Motors

Savings rating

  • $6-15 rebate per
    hp reduced
  • 2-6% energy
    savings

Premium efficiency motors are durable and reliable. They operate at cooler temperatures than standard motors, have a longer service life, and require less maintenance. An increase of just a few percentage points in motor efficiency ratings (2% to 6%) translates to major energy savings. With the money you’ll save on your electric bill, the premium motor can pay for itself in as little as two years.

Find out how much energy and dollars you can save with the Motor Incentive Reference Table found in the Motors Incentive Application. To qualify for rebates, motors must be listed as NEMA Premium Efficiency and up to 450 hp in size.

Apply for Hawaii Energy motor rebates of $6 to $15 per horsepower reduced.

Available for both existing facilities and new construction.

Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for HVAC Fans and Pumps

Savings rating

  • $50-$80 rebate per
    hp reduced
  • 30% energy
    savings

Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) control the speed of a motor by varying the electrical frequency depending on how much (or how little) power is needed at a given time. The less speed, the less electricity used. VFDs also reduce wear and tear on the system.

Air conditioning fans and pumps equipped with VFD save hundreds of dollars a year on your electric bill.

Apply for Hawaii Energy VFD rebates of $50 per hp reduced for HVAC fans

Apply for Hawaii Energy VFD rebates of $80 per hp reduced for HVAC pumps.

Rebates are available for systems with 3 to 100 hp motor speed.

Available for both existing facilities and new construction.

Booster Pumps

Savings rating

  • $80 rebate per
    hp reduced
  • 90% energy
    savings

Booster pumps increase water pressure so that water can reach a building’s higher floors. Reduce energy use by upgrading to very efficient booster pumps equipped with VFDs.

Rebates are available for horsepower reductions of up to 129 hp. All pump motors must meet NEMA Premium Efficiency standards.

Apply for Hawaii Energy booster pump rebates of $80 per hp reduced, plus $3,000 more for systems with VFDs.

Available for replacements in existing facilities only.
