Caroline Carl Appointed Executive Director of Hawaii Energy
Honolulu, Hawaii – Hawaii Energy, the state’s Public Benefits Fund administrator that focuses on energy-efficiency education and clean-energy initiatives, has appointed Caroline Carl as its executive director. Carl had been serving as interim executive director since March 22, 2022.
“It is an honor to be able to step into this role and help further Hawaii Energy’s efforts in making energy efficiency programs more accessible and more affordable to Hawaii families and businesses,” said Caroline Carl, executive director of Hawaii Energy. “As we’ve seen in recent months with the expected rise in electric costs, we are at a critical point in which we must strategically evolve our energy efficiency programs in order to meet changing grid needs and achieve 100 percent clean energy by 2045.”
Carl succeeds Brian Kealoha who served as executive director of Hawaii Energy for six years. Carl first joined Hawaii Energy in 2011 as the Hawaii County energy advisor where she helped Big Island businesses save on their electric bills through education and the adoption of energy saving equipment. She also served as residential program manager and director of residential and transformational programs, before transitioning to deputy director in 2015. Prior to joining Hawaii Energy, Carl coordinated reef education programs and water quality monitoring efforts at the Kohala Center for nearly three years.
Carl received her bachelor of arts degree in environmental studies from McGill University and her master of science in geographic information science and technology from the University of Southern California. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Hawaii Solar Energy Association and Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE).
