New rebates available now through June 30, 2027 to help offset energy costs through efficient upgrades
Honolulu, Hawaii – As Hawaiʻi residents and businesses continue to look for ways to manage everyday
expenses, Hawaii Energy, the state’s energy conservation program, has launched its 2026-2027 rebate
program to help lower electricity bills through energy efficient upgrades. Available now through June 30,
2027, Hawaiʻi Energy’s rebates help offset the cost of purchasing and installing a wide range of energy
efficient appliances and equipment for homes and businesses. Rebates are available on a first come, first
served basis while funding lasts.
“For many Hawaii residents, reducing energy use is one of the most effective ways to lower monthly
expenses,” said Caroline Carl, executive director of Hawaii Energy. “Whether it’s replacing an aging water
heater or upgrading cooling equipment, our rebates help make those investments more affordable so
families and businesses can begin saving sooner and continue benefiting from lower electricity bills for
years to come.”
During the summer months, cooling can account for as much as half of a home’s electricity use, making
energy efficient upgrades especially valuable. Electric water heating is also one of the largest contributors
to household energy consumption, with efficient water heating systems capable of reducing a home’s
electric bill by up to 40%.
Hawaii Energy’s 2026-2027 rebate offerings include incentives for a variety of residential and commercial
energy saving improvements.
RESIDENTIAL REBATES
Cooling Solutions
- Central AC Retrofit: $1,250 instant rebate
- Mini Split AC: Up to $550 per unit instant rebate
- AC Tune Up: $75 instant rebate
- ENERGY STAR® Window AC: Up to $45 instant rebate
- Whole House Fan: $100 rebate
- Solar Attic Fan: $75 rebate
Water Heating - Solar Water Heater: Up to $2,750 instant rebate
- Solar Water Heater Tune Up: Up to $325 instant rebate
- Heat Pump Water Heater: Up to $700 instant rebate
- Heat Pump Water Heater Tune Up: Up to $325 instant rebate
Appliances and Lighting - ENERGY STAR® Refrigerator Trade Up: $250 rebate with trade in of an old working refrigerator
- Rid A Fridge Recycling: $75 cash rebate with free haul away and recycling
- ENERGY STAR® LED lighting: Instant rebates available through participating retailers
BUSINESS REBATES
Cooling Solutions and Ventilation
- FEI Certified Standalone Fan: $1,000 to $1,500 per horsepower, up to 50% of installed cost (New)
- Direct Expansion Direct Outdoor Air System in New Construction: $0.15 per kWh (New)
- Kitchen Demand Ventilation Control: Up to $900 per horsepower
- Package/Split AC: Up to $275 per ton
- Variable Refrigerant Flow (AC or Heat Pump): Up to $275 per ton
- Chiller: Up to $60 per ton
Water Heating - Smart Circulator Pump for Domestic Hot Water: $330 per horsepower (New)
Appliances - ENERGY STAR® Residential Refrigerator/Freezer in Commercial Facilities: Up to $250 per unit (New)
Building Systems - Compressed Air System Leak Repair: $100 per leak repaired (New)
- Transformers: $1.50 per kVA for burnout replacement, $20 per kVA for retrofit
All rebates are available to electric utility ratepayers on Hawaii Island, Lanai, Maui, Molokai and Oahu
only. Residents and businesses on Kauai are not eligible, as the island is served by a separate utility
cooperative. Additional discounts on energy-efficient appliances and water heaters are also available for
eligible residents that identify as low-income or are located in geographically-remote areas.
