Customer Data

As a program established under contract with the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission, Hawaii Energy is responsible for providing energy efficiency services for residents in Hawaii, Honolulu and Maui counties. In order to provide these services, Hawaii Energy collects and manages customer information. We value your participation in our program, and we take our responsibility to protect this information very seriously.

We will not sell or rent your personally identifiable information.

Per a Protective Order issued by the Public Utilities Commission, we receive customer information associated with utility accounts in Hawaii, Honolulu and Maui counties from the Hawaiian Electric Company, Maui Electric Company and Hawaii Electric Light Company. Under this Protective Order, Hawaii Energy and its staff, consultants, contractors and subcontractors may utilize this data only for purposes consistent with the obligations of Public Benefits Fee administration, which includes the distribution of Home Energy Reports, verification of rebate delivery, and annual audits of our operations and energy-saving claims.

The use of this data is necessary for us to administer this public service in a cost-effective, efficient way, with the broader goal of helping Hawaii achieve 100% clean energy by 2045.

We share your customer information with a limited amount of subcontractors for purposes of providing customer care, and other services (including those listed above). We require all contracted third parties to have data security measures in place to protect and secure this data.

In addition to the terms of the Protective Order, Hawaii Energy has joined the U.S. Department of Energy’s DataGuard (Energy Data Privacy) Program. Full details on what this means in terms of handling, protecting and securing the energy data can be found here: www.dataguardprivacyprogram.org. The Hawaiian Electric companies also lets customers know about the transfer of data to Hawaii Energy through various means of communication, including but not limited to their website: hawaiianelectric.com/privacy-policy.

If you find incorrect or incomplete information, you may contact Hawaii Energy to request an update or revision. Regarding Home Energy Reports, you may choose to opt-out of receiving the Reports by contacting Hawaii Energy at (808) 537-5577 or toll-free at 1-877-231-8222.
