Hawaii Energy Announces Cool Residential Rebates In Time For Summer

Hawaii Energy, the state’s energy conservation program, has announced its Residential Rebate Program available from July 2024 through June 2025. The rebates are designed to assist residents in lowering their energy bills by investing in energy-efficient appliances and installations, including air conditioning equipment, whole house fans, pool pumps, and more. Energy rebates are available as funds last, from now until June 30, 2025.

“We’re pleased to unveil Hawaii Energy’s newest residential rebates that not only help residents save money, but also promote sustainable energy practices that benefit our environment,” said Caroline Carl, executive director at Hawaii Energy. “Air conditioning alone can account for up to half of a household’s monthly energy consumption. This is a great opportunity for residents to make energy-efficient upgrades, save money, and stay comfortable during the warm summer months.”
Hawaii Energy’s Residential Rebate Program offers a variety of incentives for energy-efficient upgrades including:

Solar Water Heating– up to $1,500
Earn rebates for installing a new solar water heating system and maintenance, including

  • Solar Water Heater: $1,500
  • Solar Water Heater Tune Up: $200

Heat Pump – $500
Heat pump water heaters are twice as efficient as a conventional water heater, reducing water heating cost in half.

Cooling Equipment – up to $1,000Earn rebates for purchasing ENERGY STAR® or other efficiently-rated air conditioning systems, including:

  • Central AC Retrofit: $1,250
  • Solar Water Heater Tune Up: $200
  • Mini-Split AC: up to $450
  • Whole House Fan: $100
  • Solar Attic Fan: $75
  • AC Tune Up: $75
  • Window AC: $45

Cooling Equipment – up to $1,000
Earn rebates for purchasing ENERGY STAR® or other efficiently-rated air conditioning systems, including:

Refrigerator Trade-Up – $250
Earn $250 toward the purchase of a new ENERGY STAR® refrigerator when trading in an old, working model.

Pool Pump – $150
Rebate given for the purchase and install of a new, ENERGY STAR® pool pump with a variable frequency drive (VFD).

“Rid-A-Fridge” Recycling – $75
Earn cool cash just for getting rid of an old working refrigerator or freezer, no purchase necessary. Free haul-away and recycling included. Cannot be combined with Trade-Up offer.

To ensure all households can benefit from lower energy bills, Hawaii Energy also offers additional discounts on energy-efficient appliances and water heaters for eligible residents that identify as low-income or are in geographically-remote areas.

Rebates are available to residential electric utility ratepayers on Hawaii Island, Lāna‘i, Maui, Molokai and Oahu only. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability of funds. Kauai residents are serviced by a utility cooperative and therefore not eligible for Hawaii Energy rebates.
